DIGITAL INSCRIPTIONS ABOUT THE LOOK: DIGITAL PAINTING AS AN EXPERIMENTATION OF THE PICTORIAL ACT
by Roberta Gerling Moro
In the contemporary context, marked by the convergence between formats and different artistic processes and hybridization of materials, I turn myself to pictorial production in the digital environment. The first experimentation was performed with digital drawing using SketchBook Express software, which gave rise to the productions presented here.
While SketchBook Express enables the development and intensification of lines, sometimes loose, sometimes superimposed, with ArtRage software, I was able to transpose some personal poetics, interspersing two supports / digital devices: the tablet/iPad and computer. One of the artists who strongly inspired me in the elaboration of these works was the British David Hockney. The Brazilian artist Iberê Camargo, in turn, inspired me by the superposition of lines, marked on the still fresh painting - I call it fresh, in the sense of the painting already carried out under the software's algorithmic commands and inscriptions.
Van Gogh and Lucian Freud, in turn, instigated me to compose portraits, mainly in the production of impastos and brushstrokes. Although it is produced in a digital environment, some of the portraits demonstrate the influence of the impasto technique, for example, left by these artists.
Finally, of the numerous studies and productions, the portrait is one of the most recurring themes in my work. I bring portraits of unnamed and non-existent people. Although materiality is digital, such images tell a little of my story in an attempt to understand myself and others. Others who leave their traces along the way, with their frailties, thoughts, feelings, typical of human beings.

Roberta Gerling Moro was born in Osório in 1993. She began her studies in painting at the age of 12, at the studio of the artist Eclair Moehlecke, in São Leopoldo/RS. One year later, she studied drawing and painting with the artist Cristina Daudt Zeni, taking part in several group exhibitions. In 2009, at the age of 16, she started an Artistic Training course with the artist Elisabete Belotto, finding an affinity for expressionism. Master in Education (2018), graduated in Visual Arts in 2015, she currently dedicated herself to drawing and digital painting, still finding affinity in expressionism.
